A new report says there is great potential for wind energy in the biggest town on the Northern Peninsula.
St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc. has released their “Wind: The Resource to Transform St. Anthony” report, which shows that the town is one of the windiest in the world.
Executive Director Chris Mitchelmore says they explored a number of different areas.
He says one option was at Cape Norman and two others were in St. Anthony. They found that St. Anthony is among the windiest locations in the world, and can support wind development.
Mitchelmore says they also found that wind in the region is capable of replacing the backup diesel generating plant and they looked into hydrogen and ammonia capabilities.
He says they looked at the cost of a large-scale development and found that they have the resources and facilities to support it.
