The federal Liberals and NDP took the first step in implementing nation-wide Pharmacare last week.
The deal was reached on Friday, ahead of the March 1 deadline to table legislation.
More details on the agreement are expected to be announced this week, but the New Democrats confirm it will include full coverage for medications used to treat type 1 and type 2 diabetes and contraceptives such as birth control.
Ozempic, a drug used to treat diabetes but has been used to aid in weight loss, will not be covered under the agreement.
Tabling a national Pharmacare plan was a key piece of the supply-and-confidence agreement between the two parties, with NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh suggesting failure to reach such a deal would have resulted in consequences for the Liberals.
