Tonight is the final opportunity for people in St. John’s to provide in-person feedback on the creation of a new crime and violence prevention strategy.
The city doesn’t directly handle public safety programs, but Building Safer Communities Coordinator Michelle Smith says the city will be playing more of a facilitator role once the plan is implemented.
She says that, in general, they are hearing that crime and violence have become more problematic, and people are more concerned about it than they have been in the past.
They are looking for to hear about people’s experiences with violence, ideas about best practices, and gaps and suggestions for the city to address the root causes.
The meeting is taking place tonight at 6:30 at City Hall.
