Two kayakers have set off on an epic quest to circumnavigate the island of Newfoundland in a little over a month.
Newfoundlander David Mackay and Jack Kotaska, an avid kayaker from the Northwest Territories, started the journey in Quidi Vidi and will return to Quidi Vidi weeks later
Jack has been kayaking in the Northwest Territories for years, and was attracted to the idea of sea kayaking along the coast of Newfoundland.
David told the Tim Powers Show on VOCM, the journey is a long one – approximately 2000 km in total.
They’re hoping to do about 45-60 km a day.
Jack says they’ll be in contact with friends and family throughout the course of their paddle trip.
“Thankfully we have some of Dave’s friends and family” who will supply them with items at certain points throughout the journey “so that we can get resupplied with food….on average every week.”
