The final touches are being put on the newly-refurbished National War Memorial in downtown St. John’s ahead of the July 1st ceremony.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister John Abbott says there’s a lot of activity happening down at the site right now, and they are on track to meet their July 1st deadline.
He says all of the statues, fencing, and granite have been refurbished. They are now in the process of laying sod and putting in planters. Abbott reveals that viewing stands are being put in to allow more people to come down and view the ceremony on July 1st.
In terms of the final costs, information first shared by Matt Barter has revealed that figure to be over $3.7-million.
Abbott says a lot of the cost increases come down to the “civil work side of things.”
As an example, he says they worked with the city to upgrade their sewer lines as part of the project. That took more time and money than expected, however that is included within the overall budget.
