The province has issued a tender for the demolition of vacant buildings in Corner Brook to make way for new homes.
Four buildings containing a total of 32 vacant units on Crestview Avenue will be demolished, and buildings containing 50 new provincially-owned homes will be built in their place.
The 2024 budget included $20 million for the project.
Government says the new structures will be energy efficient, and built using universal design.
At the end of May, Inflector Environmental Services was awarded a $429,300 contract for the abatement of the existing structures. The process to remove materials containing asbestos and any other environmental concerns from the buildings is ongoing.
The new tender includes the demolition of the buildings, cleanup of the site and preparation for the new construction.
An RFP for the construction will be issued in late summer or early fall.
