New trial dates have been set for a decorated St. John’s fire captain charged with sex offences against a minor.
Fifty-two-year-old Ron Pomeroy was charged late last year with sexual assault and sexual exploitation involving a teenage girl.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between February and May of 2023.
The trial was set for June, but the Crown had asked for more time to review additional evidence from police.
The case was called again this week, with the three-day trial now set for February of next year.
That will be preceded in October by an application from Pomeroy’s lawyer, under Sect. 278 of the Criminal Code, which seeks access to the alleged victim’s private and confidential records.
Pomeroy was a captain with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department when the charges were laid in December but his current employment status remains unclear.
