The Royal St. John’s Regatta welcomed three more inductees into its hallowed Hall of Fame yesterday.
Rowers Tim Gibbons and Campbell Feehan, along with the 1958 Police Crew were honoured during a ceremony at the convention centre.
Gibbons was a member of the legendary 1939 West End Police Crew, and ended up a champion on both sides of the boat.
Feehan was already in the Hall as a member of the record-breaking Outer Cove crew and later champion police crew.
And Ron Dower was a member of the mighty ’58 crew that held the fastest time on the pond for the 40-year period from 1940 and 1980.
Meanwhile, Sandy Gibbons accepted on behalf of his late father, Tim, who passed away in 1954, but not before solidifying his place in Regatta lore.
The younger Gibbons was overwhelmed with pride.
“I am just so proud of this moment, as proud as I could ever be,” he said. “I don’t know if my dad is up there—I don’t know if I believe in all that stuff, but we’re so proud…our whole family.”
The induction ceremony is traditionally held the week before the Regatta, which is set for next Wednesday—weather permitting.
