There are more warnings this morning for drivers along the Team Gushue Highway to watch for falling or fallen debris.
Since at least last year, there have been recurring incidents of items, including rocks, boulders and even a microwave being thrown from bridges along the route, onto the highway below, creating a serious safety hazard.
In a social media post, a towing company refreshed warnings going back to last fall, when one of its own drivers, and his girlfriend, were shaken up after they struck the microwave and several large rocks apparently thrown from the Old Penneywell Road overpass.
In today’s post, R & D Towing and Recovery said they were called back to the area Thursday night after a man’s Dodge Caravan struck a large boulder that blew out a tire, damaging the rim and suspension, but avoiding injury.
The post notes a motorcyclist would likely not have been so lucky.
The company, and the RNC, are advising drivers to use extreme caution on the highway, especially at night, and to immediately report any suspicious activity.
