The annual Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope takes place tomorrow in CBS.
St. John’s oncologist Dr. Patti Power says they’re making strides in ovarian cancer research and treatment over the last couple of decades.
“We’ve become really adept at figuring out which particular cell types (are) within tumours, and also there have been amazing research studies demonstrating different types of treatments to direct different tumour types” she says. “So 20 years ago we thought all ovarian cancers were the same, and they all got the same treatment, and now we’re understanding that it’s many, many different disease types.”
Tomorrow’s event gets underway at 10:00 at the Manuel’s River Interpretation Centre.
