A St. John’s physician, who is offering himself as the new president of the Canadian Medical Association, believes he has the skills and attitude to lead the organization.
The presidency rotates between all provinces and territories and this year, members in Newfoundland and Labrador will select the next CMA president.
Dermatologist Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi says this a critical time for health care across Canada in the wake of major changes that occurred during the height of the COVID pandemic.
That “laid bare” and exacerbated problems that had been smouldering before 2020. “We’ve learned a lot” says Ogunyemi, “we’ve learned what can happen with political will, we’ve learned how to leverage AI, and other forms of technology and virtual care. We’ve learned what can happen with collaboration, and I think that we’re going to need all of these in order to improve access to health care and helath outcomes for Canadians.”
The voting period for the CMA election is from mid- to late November until early December.
