A young man accused of robbing and sexually assaulting a teenage girl on a St. John’s walking trail made a second appearance in provincial court this morning.
Twenty-year-old Conway Whalen was charged following the incident which is alleged to have occurred on Sunday, June 15th in the city’s east end, while the girl was walking with her mother.
It’s alleged Whalen approached the mother and daughter, there was some kind of interaction involving the girl, after which the accused is said to have fled on a bike.
Officers responded and quickly tracked down and arrested the suspect nearby.
Whalen made an initial appearance following the arrest and was released on conditions, with the case called again this morning to confirm defence counsel.
It was noted the accused was already facing an assault charge prior to the latest incident.
He’s due back in court on all charges in mid-August.
