A new report from the Fraser Institute has found that the average Canadian family is spending nearly 42 per cent of its income on taxes.
Jake Fuss says that’s more than what an average family spends on housing, food and clothing combined.
The report says taxes have also grown more rapidly than any other single expenditure for an average family.
Fuss says the tax burden in Atlantic Canada is among the worst in Canada.
“In Atlantic Canada, for average Canadian families, you’re going to be paying a bigger proportion of your income to all three levels of government than people in Western Canada,” he told The Tim Powers Show on VOCM.
“There is a stark difference between regions across the country where, generally speaking, Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia are some of the heaviest taxed in Canada.”
