The hurricane season is still on track to be an above normal or near normal year for hurricanes in the Atlantic basin.
Environment Canada meteorologist Ian Hubbard says while it’s early in the season, the forecast is still calling for between 13 and 19 named storms, with between six and 10 of those becoming hurricanes, and three to five major hurricanes reaching category 3 or greater in strength.
Hubbard cautions, however, that the storms are forecast throughout the Atlantic region, and many may never make their way into Newfoundland waters.
