The St. John’s Regional Fire Department was called out eight times yesterday and last night, and while most situations were benign, two required further investigation.
Neither of the three fires Tuesday night were considered illegal.
The province-wide ban on fires, to last for the rest of summer, came down Monday afternoon.
Fire Chief Sherry Colford says they consider a bonfire to be something going on in a backyard, but a brush fire is something in a wooded area.
She encourages people to call in even if they are uncertain as to whether the fire is legal or otherwise. Police and forestry are investigating two of the fires set last night.
