The heat bearing down on firefighters in Newfoundland is something that few have experienced, leaving them, on occasion, having to run for their lives.
Duane Antle, the President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Firefighters, says he has heard of situations which are testing the mettle of all those who lay down their lives to help people, property and town.
On the Tim Powers Show on VOCM yesterday, Antle told of how we have come close to situations where a fighter was not going to return home.
He says firefighters in trucks are stopping and wondering if they can go any farther because of excessive heat. He spoke with another who told him that they didn’t even have time to unscrew the hose from the truck – they just cut it and ran.
