It’s smokey skies out there in the east as the wildfires play havoc with many outdoor activities due to poor air quality.
Many parts of the province are having a summer like no other as hot, dry conditions prevail for long stretches.
Daytime temperatures are hovering near 30 in many areas, including the Avalon Peninsula, and nighttime offers little relief with the mercury going no lower than 16 degrees.
Alexandra Cournoyer of Environment Canada says it’s not officially a heat wave yet, but we’re right on the cusp.
A heat wave would require at least three days of conditions similar to those being experienced today – and that is what is being forecast until at least the middle of the week.
