The city of St. John’s is reminding residents about its year-round water conservation order as dry conditions continue throughout the city.
While there are no special conservation measures at this time, the city says it is important for people to follow the order as water-levels are low.
The order applies to all outdoor water use, excluding commercial businesses such as car washes.
Under the order, people are allowed to water their lawns and gardens at any time with a watering can, or with a hose as long as a shutoff nozzle is used. The same can be said for washing vehicles, windows, and siding.
Otherwise, there are time and day restrictions for watering lawns based on a person’s house number. More information can be found online.
Residents can water their lawns or gardens on the following days and times:
- Even-numbered addresses: Tuesdays & Saturdays from 6 to 8 a.m. and 8 to 10 p.m.
- Odd-numbered addresses: Thursdays & Sundays from 6 to 8 a.m. and 8 to 10 p.m.
- New lawns: can be watered daily from 6 to 8 a.m. and 8 to 10 p.m. for 60 days post-installation. Registration is required by contacting Access St. John’s at 311 or 709-754-CITY (2489).
