Some people in Holyrood are being allowed to return to their homes. Those who live in the area from 177 Conception Bay Highway (Irving Gas Bar) to 103 Conception Bay Highway by Murray’s Peak Hiking Trail can return.
The evacuation order for the rest of Holyrood remains in effect.
The blaze has not grown in size since the day it started. It is being held at 22 hectares, and crews have been consistently having positive days battling the blaze.
Jamie Chippett, deputy minister in the department of forestry, says there are still hot spots that crews are focusing on. Before they allow people back into their homes, they have to be 100 per cent sure it is the right move.
He says while people may no longer be seeing huge flames, there are lots of hot spots as fires can burn deep into the ground. He says there is a considerable amount of work ground crews need to do before changing the status of a fire, and discussions are ongoing.
