The fire is burning in an area roughly around Brown’s Road. The Town of Spaniard’s Bay is asking for residents of Brown’s Road to evacuate immediately.
A waterbomber and helicopter are on the scene working on the blaze along with the Bay de Grave and Bay Roberts fire departments.
The Whitbourne Fire Department and a Coast Guard helicopter meanwhile were called out earlier today to reports of a possible wildfire just west of Whitbourne.
Fire Chief Jamie Budden says they searched the area and no signs of a fire were found. He suspects that what the caller witnessed was dust rising from a dirt road after a truck had passed through.
VOCM News is tracking that development and will have updates as they become available.
