More than 200 structures have been destroyed by the Conception Bay North wildfire and insurance companies are involved in the discussion, though not everyone had coverage.
The Insurance Bureau of Canada is telling anyone who may have lost property to document everything.
Edward Zhakata, consumer and industrial relations manager with the bureau, says policies typically cover costs incurred for situations such as evacuations. Some people in CBN have been out of their homes for almost three weeks, with no end in sight for some.
He says it’s important that people keep their receipts, have photos or videos of their home, and keep as many detailed notes as possible.
“Once you’ve documented everything that you can, get in touch with your insurance rep who will help you get in touch with your adjuster to get the claim started,” says Zhakata.
