Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services has implemented 12 of the 15 recommendations by the Auditor General on the hiring of travel nurses.
Of the three recommendations not yet implemented, Health CEO Pat Parfrey says they are well on the road to achieving completion.
Saying the organization wants to be as transparent as possible, Parfrey says they welcome government’s decision to do a review of the health authority, which grew out of four regional authorities.
Parfrey says they have an action plan to reduce reliance on the most expensive nurses. The AG and government are concerned about questionable expenditures surrounding the use of such nurses.
NLHS has a five-point plan for financial sustainability, one of which will focus on what they call unnecessary medical testing. The authority says this province has the highest amount of unnecessary testing, leaving those who are in dire need o such diagnostic services too far back in the queue.
