The Department of Education says the majority of students of Cabot Academy in Western Bay will be heading to Tricon Elementary in Bay de Verde.
Cabot Academy was one of the hundreds of structures destroyed in the wildfire in Conception Bay North.
Some of the school’s 56 families have chosen Persalvic in Victoria, while other students will be accommodated at other schools depending on where their families choose to stay for the time being.
Education Minister Bernard Davis says the province will bus the students to whichever school they decide to attend.
“Within some reason, there’s going to be some movement there, but the lion’s share of the students have secured, or families have secured, a location where they’re going to be,”says Davis.
“We have adequate space to house them in the schools that are going to be there with their friends. We work very closely with the families, and we’re committed to doing that with the teachers. We’ve started that process.”
(Editor’s note: a previous version of this story suggested that most students were heading to Carbonear Academy, the information has since been updated by the department)
