VOCM and the Canadian Cancer Society are pulling an all-nighter in support of Daffodil Place.
The initiative is known as the Home for the Night fundraiser – a 24-hour radiothon in support of the facility, which gives people who must travel to St. John’s for cancer treatment a place to stay.
The event began at 7:00 this morning, and will run until 7 a.m. tomorrow with all proceeds going towards supporting those who have to stay at Daffodil Place.
NAPE has made a significant contribution to the fundraiser, giving $30,000.
Jerry Earle says not long after he became president of the union, he was asked if they would like to support Daffodil Place. He calls it one of the easiest decisions their board of directors has ever made.
“I think it took us about 30 seconds to decide that we were going to be providing support where we could and where we were able on behalf of our membership.” Earle notes that many of their members are those who help treat cancer patients.
Donations to the radiothon can be made online.
