Marine Atlantic had a busy summer in 2025, and they are hoping to see even more traffic on their crossings in the summer of 2026.
Last July, Prime Minister Mark Carney made good on an election promise to cut fares by half, which he believed would bring over $28-million in revenue to the provincial economy.
Marine Atlantic CEO Murray Hupman says they saw “great numbers” last summer, with their crossings “100 per cent booked most evenings.”
He says it was a busy time for them, and he is expecting those trends to continue with the federal rate reduction.
Hupman expects the rate change will drive even more traffic their way next summer. He says bookings are up “significantly,” even when compared to this time last year.
