A woman who offered refuge for horses and other farm animals evacuated during the wildfires this past summer is seeking a little help herself.
Katrina Butler of Sliding K Ranch in CBS opened her barns and pastures to horses and other large animals evacuated from fire zones last year.
Monday night’s wind storm tore through her barn, leaving a gaping hole in the riding arena.
She says the damage started with a small tear at the peak of the roof, and by morning, a 12 foot wide gap had opened up right from the peak of the building down to the concrete.
Butler says the structure is crucial for generating income and keeping their lesson program going.
She says they’ve had to bring hay in from New Brunswick because last summer’s dry conditions prevented hay from being grown locally. That’s adding to their costs, and without the riding facility, they’re without an important source of income.
A GoFundMe has been launched to help with repair costs.
