While the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary agrees that more crime has contributed to an increased number of calls for service, accessibility to police is also playing a factor.
A recent social media post by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association indicates that last year, for the first time ever, calls to the RNC surpassed 90,000.
Constable Steph Myers says the increase can be attributed to a number of things. She says more crime is a factor, but the force has also become more accessible to the public.
She says they have an online reporting system, more information on social media, and lots of officers working and responding to calls.
