It’s just what the southwest coast didn’t need – high winds and heavy rain will pounce on the region today and tonight, just a few days after ferocious winds blew the membrane of the roof off the Bruce II Arena.
Port aux Basques Mayor Mark Andrews says assessments on the multi-faceted facility are still being done, and they don’t have any timelines to work with yet. The parking lot has been closed until further notice.
Mayor Andrews says contractors have been on site since the incident, and are trying to secure the facility so that water does not get inside and do more damage.
“In the meeting room, you can see sky through the roof, and minor hockey and figure skating have a couple of equipment rooms in there and you can see sky,” notes the mayor.
“We have plastic in place because of that system coming in.”
