Snowfall warnings remain in place for central Newfoundland, and winter storm warnings are in place for portions of the northeast coast thanks to the latest storm system to affect the island.
Up to 13 cm of snow had fallen in Grand Falls-Windsor by this morning, with a total of 25 cm of snow expected before the system moves offshore later today.
Snow turned to rain on the Avalon Peninsula early this morning resulting in a tricky commute for many, with heavy slush and water buildup on the roads.
The story for St. John’s and the rest of the Avalon today and tonight will be the wind, although Environment Canada meteorologist David Neil says it won’t be as bad as we’ve seen in recent days.
Winds are expected to gust to about 100 km/h which is strong and has prompted wind warnings for the region, but are well below some of the strong winds experienced in the last few weeks.
