The status of this province’s negotiating team for the Churchill Falls MOU is even murkier this morning, after both the premier and NL Hydro dodged the issue yesterday.
Tony Wakeham was repeatedly asked about the team, specifically Karl Smith, who said he hasn’t heard from government since the election, adding he doesn’t even know if he’s still a member.
Wakeham confirmed yesterday he’s had no contact with Smith, but suggested Hydro leadership has.
“We’ve reached out to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro on many occasions. The president of Hydro, I’m sure, has been in contact with all members of that (team).”
VOCM News then put the same questions to NL Hydro, which sent VOCM News back to the government.
“This one is best directed to GNL (Government of Newfoundland and Labrador),” reads the response.
VOCM News will be renewing its inquiries today on the status of the team and negotiations.
