The MP for Avalon says he’s working to find federal money to help clean up the abandoned fish sauce plant in St. Mary’s.
The building was heavily damaged in a wind storm last week, leaving it open to the elements.
Municipal Affairs Minister Chris Tibbs visited the site this week, indicating that he would expedite the cleanup process and that he anticipated federal funding to help.
But MP Paul Connors is not aware of any money currently available for the project, but says he has meetings planned in Ottawa with the ministers of fisheries and environment on the issue.
“I don’t have a fund or a program federally where mitigation of this kind would fall, so I’m looking at all possible avenues to see how we could potentially assist and be able to get the sauce plant finally cleared up.”
