The Liberal energy critic believes the Wakeham government is trying to run out the clock on the MOU on hydro development in Labrador so they can blame Quebec for walking away.
Premier Francois Legault will be out of the picture as soon as a new leader is chosen in April, drawing into question the status of the tentative agreement between Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Premier Tony Wakeham’s review committee has been given until the end of April to say yae or nay to the deal, but that is past the previous deadline set for the deal’s finalization.
Furthermore, the negotiating committee for this province appears to be in the dark as to where things stand.
One member, Karl Smith, says he has had no contact with the PC government since the election.
The review panel has reached out to the public for input into the MOU, but Opposition critic Fred Hutton says maybe they should have a chat with Smith.
Hutton says it’s “unbelievable” that nobody has picked up the phone to ask Smith for his advice as one of the key negotiators.
