Residents of Badger are being asked to be on alert with an ice jam advisory now in effect.
Badger is prone to flooding when ice jams cause water levels on the Exploits River, Red Indian Brook and Badger Brook to rise. The town was hit hard in the 1980s, and again in February of 2003 when flood waters inundated low lying areas of the town and promptly froze solid in frigid temperatures. Residents had to be evacuated and many families were eventually relocated to areas outside the known flood plane.
A river watch is in effect starting tonight, and the Badger Fire Department has been informed. Residents will be advised as river watch advisories are available.
