Emergency Services has been in contact with the Trepassey town council after Monday’s storm destroyed what was left of the breakwater.
A portion of the town is now cut off from the rest of the community and a State of Emergency was declared.
The provincial government has pledged a new breakwater built from armor stone, and that work has begun off-site according to Infrastructure Minister Barry Petten.
Emergency Services says while discussions are now underway on next steps, the priority is to maintain fire and emergency services in the affected part of the town.
