A fire at an apartment building in the centre city area of St. John’s yesterday has displaced a handful of people.
The blaze broke out in a second floor apartment on Keane Place off Freshwater Road around lunchtime yesterday.
Platoon Chief Mike Hall of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department says they extinguished the blaze but two units were damaged by smoke and water. The sprinkler system in the building was also activated.
He says Metrobus helped move people away from the area, an effort which eased the strain on residents.
There were no injuries but it will likely be some time before the apartments in question will be ready for occupancy.
