Schools are closed in metro today as residents in Central and Eastern Newfoundland are digging out from two full nights of snowfall.
In Paradise, some weather watchers recorded nearly 75 cm in their backyard since Tuesday evening.
Metrobus, Memorial University and the Avalon Mall are all shuttered this morning as well
In parts of central, nearly 30 cm or more fell during the storm, with more falling through the evening.
Another 2-5 cm is expected throughout the day, which may be mixed with freezing drizzle.
St. John’s City Councillor Greg Noseworthy says crews have been working around the clock to try to get ahead of the snow.
“They have been at this 24/7 since it started. Obviously, this is a tough one. We’ve seen well over 60 centimeters in multiple areas of the city. I’m hearing 80 in some parts, which is significant. It has been challenging conditions, and we’re expecting more snow today as well,” he told VOCM
“With, flurries over the next couple of days, that’s going to lead to blowing snow, drifting. And with that, the roads will get filled in again.”
