The young man accused of assaulting an RNC officer and civilian employee outside police headquarters has been released on bail.
Twenty-two-year-old Jamal Omer was charged following the incident on the morning of Friday, January 23rd.
It began with an assault on the civilian employee as he was arriving for work around 7:00 a.m.
An RNC officer responded, but was also allegedly assaulted and injured by the suspect, who’s also accused of trying to disarm the officer.
Omer was eventually subdued, arrested and locked up — until this morning, when he was released on a list of conditions, including to stay away from police headquarters and anyone involved in the incident.
He faces charges of aggravated assault, assaulting and attempting to disarm an officer, uttering threats, and resisting arrest, and is due back in court on April 22nd.
The RNC has said it will conduct a review of safety protocols for its employees in the wake of the incident.
