Alex Newhook’s series clinching goal in game 7 of the Montreal Canadiens matchup with Tampa Bay was all the buzz in the House of Assembly yesterday.
Premier Tony Wakeham, an unabashed Habs fan, says he couldn’t be prouder that a Newfoundlander got the final goal to take Montreal on to second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
He says Justice Minister Helen Conway Ottenheimer even predicted that it would be Newhook who would score the game-winning goal.
“It’s so great to hear the national media talk about a hockey player from Newfoundland and Labrador,” he said.
“That just speaks to how Newfoundland and Labrador is so well respected in the sporting community and actually in a lot of sports, not just hockey of course.”
