It’s a hidden gem in plain site.
The Pharmacy Museum is open for another season on Water Street in St. John’s, located in Apothecary Hall, the former O’Mara’s Pharmacy property.
Pharmacist Keith Bailey says the museum features methods and compounds used by pharmacists years ago.
He says despite major advancements in science and technology, many of the practices used back then are still in use today.
“We do vaccines now in a bigger way, and many other services, but we still do compounding, and we still make things from scratch, we still make things from recipes like pharmacists did 100 years ago”
“We also celebrate what was on Water Street for many years. There were dozens of pharmacies on Water Street. It was the beacon for pharmacy…all have closed now, and I guess this is the last bastion of pharmacy on Water Street.”
