The federal fisheries minister says she’s “pleased” with the amount of Northern cod allocated for Indigenous groups across the province.
Earlier this month a number of Labrador based groups asked Ottawa to go back to the drawing board on the Northern cod allocation – including the Nunatsiavut Government.
Minister Joanne Thompson says there were opportunities for groups to acquire more quota had they wished.
“There are many opportunities groups have to acquire more quota and I’ll leave it at that but I think it was a really balanced decision. I’m delighted that we’re in the place where I can stand and say Northern cod is in a healthy zone,” she told reporters.
