An ATV operator has been arrested and charged after failing to stop for police in Corner Brook.

RNC first noticed the vehicle driving on the shoulder of the road on the TCH between Steady Brook and Corner Brook just before 11:00 Thursday night.

When police tried to pull the vehicle over, it stopped only long enough for them to get the license plate before taking off again.

Officers did not pursue the situation further at that time due to safety concerns.

The ATV was later found abandoned on a trail off Confederation Drive.

Now, a 37-year-old Deer Lake man has been charged with flight from police and dangerous operation. He was also ticketed for various offences including driving while suspended and having no insurance.

He will appear in court at a later date.
