VOCM’s annual Block the Bus campaign officially gets underway tomorrow.
The initiative collects school supplies, which are then distributed to families through the Single Parent Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Executive Director Danielle Seaward acknowledges that the school year only just ended, but if they don’t start collecting supplies now they wont have enough to distribute across the province by September.
Seaward says demand continues to grow.
She says their food bank usage has “exploded” since January, and the need is the same for back-to-school. They opened registration for families on Tuesday, and they already have a few hundred kids on the list.
Donations are being accepted at the Village Shopping Centre in St. John’s now through to August 7th, where the campaign wraps up with a live broadcast on VOCM as we try to block a Metrobus full of supplies.
New this year is a secondary drop-off location in central to donate supplies to Terra Nova Chevrolet GMC Buick in Grand Falls Windsor.
