As of mid-month, all but one of the 472 cargo containers on board the grounded cargo ship Baltic III had been removed from the vessel.
The Canadian Coast Guard says the last container, which is heavily damaged, will have to stay on the deck of the vessel until it’s pulled to shore.

In the meantime, portions of the accommodations bloc are now being removed, and a water treatment system is in the process of being installed. Once operational, the system will treat the contaminated water in the ship’s cargo holds.
Because activity has ramped up dramatically in the area of Cedar Cove, the Canadian Coast Guard is asking the public to stay away from the work site to ensure the safety of both salvage workers and the public.
