The Opposition is urging Premier Tony Wakeham not to “miss an opportunity” and work with Ottawa and the other Atlantic provinces on lowering electricity costs and strengthening the region’s energy future.

Ottawa recently signed an MOU with Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI on regional energy cooperation, yet the premier indicated that the province’s focus is on negotiations with Quebec on the Upper Churchill when asked about his absence last week.

Opposition Leader John Hogan says Newfoundlanders and Labradorians spent the winter worried about rising electricity bills and the cost of living.

He says taking part in regional discussions on electricity infrastructure and affordability could strengthen the province’s position in its talks with Quebec on Churchill River hydro expansion.
