The newly-elected President of the Citizen’s Crime Prevention Association in Mount Pearl says a shocking attack on her husband is what prompted her to get involved in positive action in the community.
Bailey Rempel’s husband was set upon by a group of young people in November of 2024, sending him to hospital with serious injuries. It was an incident that shattered the community’s sense of security and led the city to develop a public safety plan.

Rempel says she decided to channel the experience in positive ways, by getting involved in the citizen’s group.
“To my mind, the only way to address what we’re facing is for individuals to care, government to care, RNC to care. For all of us to jump in and work together on this.”
The local group has developed a whistle program, distributing whistles for people who use the popular Mount Pearl trail system in response to recent incidents. They’re also distributing certificates to children who are caught participating in positive community behaviour.
