The Canadian Federation of Independent Business says Canadian cities, including St. John’s and Mount Pearl, are failing small business – but Mount Pearl is doing better than others when it comes to at least one indicator.

That’s the finding of the CFIB’s first Municipal Report Card released this week.

Jonathan Galgay says more than half of the 66 municipalities analysed received a failing grade.

He says while both Mount Pearl (D) and St. John’s (F) were graded poorly, Mount Pearl did come out on top in one indicator.

“But what’s really interesting about the whole report, is that Mount Pearl ranked number one in Canada on cost burden ahead of all 66 municipalities.”

“Essentially, businesses in Mount Pearl pay less than the proportional share of property taxes relative to the assessed value. They are a leader and people are watching.”
