Two people are in a heap of trouble after an incident on the Team Gushue Highway during the morning rush hour yesterday in which police were met with defiance instead of compliance.
It all started just before 9:00 when an officer on patrol attempted to pull a vehicle over near Blackmarsh Road.
The driver hit the gas and took off towards the Team Gushue. Police did not give chase due to public safety, but were able to keep an eye on the vehicle from a distance.
Once on the on-ramp, the driver threw the car in reverse and accelerated right into the RNC vehicle.
The car had come to a complete stop by that point, however the driver refused to get out. Officers used force to pry open the doors – but at the same time a woman in the passenger seat decided to take off on foot.
The 31-year-old was arrested after a fairly brief foot chase.
The 36-year-old man behind the wheel of the stolen vehicle is facing a slew of charges including dangerous driving, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and flight from police.
His passenger was released to appear in court at a later date on charges of resisting arrest and possession of property obtained by crime.
