Premier Tony Wakeham has spoken with Quebec’s premier-elect who says he needs more time to get up to speed on the agreements reached between the two provinces on hydro development.
Wakeham had the opportunity to speak with Paul St. Pierre-Plamondon for the first time yesterday.
The Premier’s Office says the two spoke about the agreement reached with the previous CAQ government on hydro development in Labrador – something the new PQ leader needs time to go over.
While government had hoped to have the final agreements signed off on by the end of the year, Wakeham says they are willing to move the goalposts.
He says they have the opportunity to extend that deadline to March if necessary.
Wakeham had previously stated that the PQ was not interested in abandoning the deal and was more so focused on doing a review.
