A former deputy CEO of the C-NLOPB and Conservative Senator has come out swinging against Bill C-69, saying the new federal legislation will kneecap the province’s petroleum sector.
David Wells accuses the Liberal government of attempting to “phase out” the petroleum industry, and says Ottawa does not have the province’s best interests in mind.
The bill, he says, it creates an uncertain and lengthy time for projects to be either approved, or denied. Meaning that companies will think twice about investing in natural resources in Newfoundland and Labrador and across Canada.
A Liberal Government Developing the Trans Mountain Pipeline is Clearly Not Against the Oil Industry, says Whalen
A Liberal MP is firing back at a Conservative Senator who has suggested that the federal Liberals are trying to kneecap the petroleum industry.
MP Nick Whalen was responding to recent remarks by Senator David Wells.
Whalen told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that to suggest the federal government and NL MPs are somehow against the petroleum industry is “patently false.”
He says they’ve just bought a pipeline that they’re trying to develop and have helped to shepherd two environmental assessments through a broken process that they fixed.
