It is a waiting game for a business on Duckworth Street as they seek more outdoor dining space on what would be a portion of their own parking lot.
Co-owner and general manager of Bannerman Brewing Company, Phil Maloney, says it seems a bit funny that they can get fast-tracked to rent sidewalk space from the city but they have to wait weeks to get approval to put picnic tables on their own property.
Maloney says the application is not going to be tabled at St. John’s City Council until the end of this month or early August.
Bannerman Brewing Co. has made an application to the City of St. John’s to expand their outdoor seating area from the deck to the parking lot. But, it may be the end of July before they get the green light.

He says he can’t put a dollar figure on what kind of loss in revenue they would be looking at, but it is sizeable.
About six picnic tables, or 36 people, could be sitting outside. Maloney says that is an issue on top of the short season of summer weather the province gets.
Maloney says they feel like something could have been done to include them in the pedestrian mall concept.
He feels like they are left out. Maloney says he believes that people are parking in front of businesses on Duckworth Street now to just walk down to Water Street which he calls a huge “drag.”
